When a bunch of sausages from Scotty’s Meats in Martinborough turned up on our doorstep from the team at Thunderpants, along with a loaf of bread and Tomato sauce, we were both intrigued and thankful we didn’t have to think about what to do for lunch that day.
Having grown up in the Wairarapa I’ve always admired the Bidwill sisters and their iconic Thunderpants business. The ‘ultimate undie’ - New Zealand made from organic cotton - 20 years on they’re producing over 30,000 pairs a year. The quirky New Zealand underwear company that loves to do good wanted to come up with a fun way to support more charities and they figured a take on the classic fundraiser was the perfect fit.
And so the ‘Sausage Sizzle Philanthropants’ were born, the idea being a portion of sales will be donated to a different partner charity each month. I was honoured to help them launch this awesome idea - especially as it meant we were able to help raise some funds for Garden to Table. Thanks to Freedom Farms & Loaf we kicked off the fundraising with the real deal at Farro Fresh earlier in the month - thankfully not in our undies however Josie impressed with an ingenius sausage cap cover for me….
For those who missed us you can pick up the Sausage Sizzle Philanthropants online. Proceeds from all sales in September will continue to go to Garden to Table so I suggest some early Christmas shopping for the whole family. There are a bunch of different styles for all shapes and sizes - check them out here and make sure you load up on condiments while you are at it.
These contributions will help the dedicated and passionate team behind the Garden to Table Initiative work towards the vision of improving food education for the children of New Zealand – more specifically providing greater access by developing new ways of reaching the schools, compilation of teaching resources, supporting the existing work in primary schools and encouraging volunteer participation.
